Kentucky reportedly lands former NCAA Tournament hero in transfer portal
New Kentucky coach Mark Pope is rebuilding his team through the transfer portal, and he is bringing in some experienced players to help.
Lamont Butler, a former San Diego State guard, is slated to transfer to Kentucky, according to Jeff Goodman of Field 68. Butler has one year of eligibility remaining.
Butler is best known for scoring the jumper that propelled San Diego State to the national championship game at the buzzer in 2023, cementing his place in Aztecs history. However, the senior plainly wanted to put himself to the test before finishing college.
Butler, despite being famous for that one shot, is not a prolific scorer. He is a strong perimeter defender with a wealth of experience, which could be quite valuable in Lexington as Pope attempts to establish the program’s tone.
