According to Football Insider, Bolton Wanderers are among numerous clubs interested in signing Southend United forward Harry Cardwell.

Cardwell has been in excellent form for the Shrimpers, scoring 17 goals and assisting four times in 37 National League games.

The 27-year-old is having the most productive season of his career, which has sparked Football League interest in the former Chorley player.

Promotion-chasing Wanderers will compete with fellow League One clubs Oxford United and Exeter City, as well as League Two club Gillingham, to acquire the former Scotland Under 21 international.

Rotherham United, who were just relegated from the Championship, is said to be interested as well. Cardwell is on the Millers’ radar as they attempt to rebuild a team that can propel them back to the second tier.

According to the article, Cardwell is under contract at Roots Hall until the summer of 2026, but he has a buy-out clause that potential suitors will be interested in.

The Southend native has spent the majority of his football career in the National League system, representing Stockport County among others. He has some Football League experience, having played 37 League Two games for Grimsby Town from 2017 to 2020.

The striker’s previous greatest goal-scoring season came during a 13-game stint with Chorley in the National League North, where he scored seven goals and earned a move to recently relegated Southend.

Now, the Essex club must fight to retain one of the division’s top marksmen.
