Derek Adams has challenged his Morecambe players to win two home games in a succession in 2025 when they face Crewe Alexandra tomorrow.
Adams’ squad have returned to League Two action following last weekend’s 5-0 FA Cup humiliation at Chelsea.
Next up is a match between second-bottom and second from top, with Morecambe hosting a promotion-chasing Crewe squad that has only lost once in its past 17 league games.
After waiting until New Year’s Day for their first home win of the season, the Shrimps are now looking for a second as they lie five points from safety barely past the halfway point.
Crewe, on the other hand, hopes to accomplish a league double over Morecambe this season after winning their first encounter in September.
“We’ve come off a good win in our last game at home against Tranmere Rovers and will take that confidence into Saturday’s game,” Adams informed us.
“However, we appreciate that Crewe has had a fantastic season thus far, but we’re trying to outperform them this time.
“I thought the game down there was one where there wasn’t much between the teams and we should have had something out of the game.”
Morecambe’s players received plaudits for their performance at Chelsea, as they kept their opponents out until succumbing twice in quick succession either side of half-time.
Three more goals in eight second-half minutes made the result more overwhelming, but Adams saw reasons to be positive at Stamford Bridge.
When asked what his players could take away from the game, he said: “The way they held their own against Chelsea, from the standpoint that we limited them to very few major chances on goal.
“We were up against a pretty good team, but the way we dug in and performed is something we’ve seen throughout the whole season.
“Over the last 10 games, we sit mid-table in the form guide so that shows we’re improving.”
Adams may choose from the 20-man squad that went to Chelsea, as well as new arrivals Callum Cooke and Ryan Schofield, since there were no fresh injuries ahead of training yesterday.
