Breaking: Anger at decision not to stop match where man died.

Football fans are outraged that a match between Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion was not halted after a man suffered a medical emergency in the stands and ultimately died.

It occurred at Hillsborough Stadium on Saturday.

An Albion supporter who witnessed the situation firsthand stated that pausing the game would have provided medical teams with faster access and more area to work.

West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday paid respect to the individual and said that they will work together to investigate the circumstances.

Following the event, many flocked to social media to criticise how long it took to treat the man.

One unnamed spectator at the game told the BBC that, while CPR could be administered, there was no room for urgent mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and little space to get the stretcher down onto the concourse.

The individual, who claimed to have assisted in the delivery of first aid, also stated that the aisles of Hillsborough Stadium were too narrow to accommodate stretchers.

The BBC has contacted Yorkshire Ambulance Service for further information.

The victim’s brother wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “My heart is truly broken, my son had to watch my brother pass away and lose an uncle, and is left with those memories.

“I’ve had to tell my parents and his wife.

“My brother loved the Baggies, he was my best mate and going to a game will never be the same.”

A West Bromwich Albion official stated that the club’s thoughts are with the supporter’s family.

“The club is in frequent contact with the supporter’s family and has again requested that they be allowed to mourn their loss privately.

“Albion will work with Sheffield Wednesday, the EFL and all relevant parties to establish the circumstances relating to the supporter’s tragic passing.”

In a second statement, Sheffield Wednesday extended its condolences to the victim’s family and said it will be working with all those involved to “together determine the whole circumstances concerning this tragic loss of life”.
