The Zimbabwe Women’s team has a new member of the backroom staff as they aim to qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Zimbabwe women have hired former West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh as a coaching consultant in their quest to qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh.

The final two seats for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be decided at the Qualifier, which begins on April 25 in the UAE.

Walsh, the first player to record 500 Test wickets, has already begun working with the team as they prepare for the 10-team event. Zimbabwean women have yet to appear in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

“We count ourselves fortunate and privileged to be able to bring in Courtney as a technical consultant for our campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi,” Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said.

“He is one of the world’s greatest cricketers and we believe his experience at the highest level of the women’s game in particular will boost our chances of securing one of the two spots up for grabs at the main global showpiece later in the year.”

Walsh was there for Zimbabwe’s recent home series against Papua New Guinea Women and will assist head coach Walter Chawaguta ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024.

Zimbabwe is in Group B with Ireland, the Netherlands, the UAE, and Vanuatu.
