Liverpool
The truth about Liverpool must be faced by Raheem Sterling, and Man City expresses their thoughts clearly.

Raheem Sterling appears to be moving from Manchester City to Chelsea this summer. What might have been if his
Liverpool career had taken a different turn, unloved at the EtiWhen it comes to Liverpool supporters, Raheem Sterling is not a well-liked individual. This information is hardly news, since the English international damaged his relationship with the Reds by pressing through a £49 million deal to Man City in the summer of 2015.
Although it has been seven years, Kopites have found little solace in the fact that their former team has grown under Jurgen Klopp since his departure and has become City’s closest title contender in recent years. Time hasn’t been Sterling’s savior in this situation.
Ever since Jon Flanagan flew into the winger to roaring cheers in the opening minutes of his Anfield return in March 2016, just days after City had overcome the Reds in the League Cup final at Wembley, he has been made well-aware of his standing with his departure taken most personally. This is war.
It is significant that the one goal he has scored at his former home and experienced triumph came in February 2021, behind closed doors, at a time when the coronavirus pandemic kept spectators away from stadiums, given that his every touch is met with jeers. Otherwise, he has been yanked off the field and dropped out of the starting XI for the bulk of matches against Liverpool after having ineffective performances.
Sterling is not the first player to depart from the Reds in a sour situation, and he won’t be the last either. But the fact that he was only 20 at the time and had yet to truly accomplish anything at Anfield after spending the latter of his formative years in the Liverpool academy following a £450k move from Queens Park Rangers, with a potential increase to £2m, in 2002 is what made his departure hurt just a little bit more.
In addition, leaving for a team like City, who had been overnight transformed into Premier League contenders by Aby Dhabi billions, was a slap in the face to the club that looked after him and finished his development before giving him his senior breakthrough. At City, he would be able to win the trophies that had been absent at Anfield for far too long.
