Sunderland striker out for crucial Leeds United game.

Leeds United will try to bounce back to winning ways when they host Sunderland on Tuesday night.

Mike Dodds has announced that Sunderland will be without Nazariy Rusyn when they face Leeds United on Tuesday night. The Black Cats travel to West Yorkshire this week following a 0-0 draw with Bristol City over the weekend, which was regarded as a significant improvement in terms of performance after opening last week with a 5-1 thrashing at Blackburn Rovers.

As a result, they will come to Elland Road full of confidence, but as they seek only their second win since mid-February, Dodds had hoped to see Sunderland’s attacking threat increase with the return of Rusyn. The attacker has been absent in recent weeks owing to a calf injury, and despite only scoring two league goals this season, he has made 21 appearances for the team.

However, Dodds has acknowledged that the battle with Leeds will be too soon for the Ukrainian, and he may be forced to miss the club’s next five games.

“He’s not close,” Dodds said before of the game, according to the Sunderland Echo. “He was out on the grass running today, but he isn’t with the group. He’ll be out for a few weeks and it’ll be uncertain whether he’ll be available for the Sheffield Wednesday game.

Corry Evans, Dennis Cirkin, and Elliot Embleton join Rusyn on the Black Cats’ sidelines, but there is also concern about Trai Hume’s fitness, who Leeds has been connected with in recent weeks.

“Trai received a minor injury during the game, but he recovered. “There are one or two that we have to manage a little bit,” Dodds said on Monday.

“There is still 24 hours before the game so we’ll see how they react in the morning.”
