South coast celebrates promotion nine years later.

It was an incredible day filled with a variety of emotions that culminated in ecstatic celebrations when Watford was promoted back to the Premier League nine years ago today.

On April 25, 2015, around 3,200 fans traveled to the south coast to watch the Hornets meet Brighton & Hove Albion in a midday kickoff.

The visitors struggled in the first quarter of the game, leading manager Slavisa Jokanovic to make an early substitution, bringing on Daniel Tozser for Ikechi Anya. Within four minutes, Troy Deeney had put Watford ahead.

The Hornets had chances to make the afternoon more comfortable before an exciting finish in which Deeney set up Matej Vydra to score a late second, leaving their team four points clear at the top of the Championship at the time.

It was then a case of waiting as the anxiety grew throughout a rollercoaster afternoon in which both Middlesbrough and Norwich City failed to achieve the results required to deny Watford promotion.

The Hornets were back in the Premier League and a big party could now get started.
