Shocking away statistic Liverpool need to change against Leeds

Liverpool come into their game against Leeds needing a win to avoid an embarrassing stat – while a goal would at least end a shocking run.

Forty-four days have passed since Liverpool last won a football game and the Reds have failed to match the level of performance displayed at Anfield as they beat Man United 7-0.

Of the five games played since then, Liverpool have lost three and drawn two.

If Jurgen Klopp’s side are unable to beat Leeds it would mean the gap between their wins over Southampton (November 12) and Aston Villa (Boxing Day) would be closer despite there being a World Cup to separate these matches.

Surprisingly, Liverpool are yet to score a league goal this season against a side who were in the bottom half of the Premier League at the start of this weekend.

The Reds have scored just four goals in their eight away league matches in 2023, with the goals coming from four different players – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah.

Liverpool have won one of their last eight league away matches, beating Newcastle 2-0 in February.

Thirteen of the Reds’ 44 league points so far this season have come from Anfield.

Their tally of 14 away goals in the league is the second-lowest tally of any top-11 side in the top flight. Two players have scored more than one league away goal for the Reds this season – Salah has six, twice as many as Nunez.

Liverpool have failed to win in their last four league games and have picked up just two points in that span. Since January 2021, they haven’t gone five consecutive league wins without a win.

Liverpool have lost one of their last 13 meetings against Leeds and are unbeaten in their last seven games at Elland Road.

Leeds seek the double

Leeds are aiming for their first league double against Liverpool since 2000/01 when they won 4-3 at Elland Road and Mark Viduka scored all four goals.

The only other hat-trick between the sides at Elland Road came in 1991 when Lee Chapman scored three goals in a 5-4 loss to Liverpool.

The win against the Reds of the season was their seventh in their last 50 league games.

Last season Leeds took 15 points from their last 10 games to stay ahead, winning at Brentford on the final day to retain their top-flight status. This is Leeds’ third home game in a row. Patrick Bamford’s goal against Crystal Palace was his 50th goal for Leeds in all competitions.

Leeds have kept clean sheets in their last 13 league and cup games, the 1-0 home win against Southampton in February.

They have conceded 14 goals in their last five games.
