Shocking away statistic Liverpool need to change against Leeds

Published

on

Liverpool come into their game against Leeds needing a win to avoid an embarrassing stat – while a goal would at least end a shocking run.

Forty-four days have passed since Liverpool last won a football game and the Reds have failed to match the level of performance displayed at Anfield as they beat Man United 7-0.

Of the five games played since then, Liverpool have lost three and drawn two.

If Jurgen Klopp’s side are unable to beat Leeds it would mean the gap between their wins over Southampton (November 12) and Aston Villa (Boxing Day) would be closer despite there being a World Cup to separate these matches.

However, there is an arguably even more embarrassing stat that Liverpool hope to change on Monday night. Woe to the street

Surprisingly, Liverpool are yet to score a league goal this season against a side who were in the bottom half of the Premier League at the start of this weekend.

The Reds have scored just four goals in their eight away league matches in 2023, with the goals coming from four different players – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah.

Liverpool have won one of their last eight league away matches, beating Newcastle 2-0 in February.

Thirteen of the Reds’ 44 league points so far this season have come from Anfield.

Their tally of 14 away goals in the league is the second-lowest tally of any top-11 side in the top flight. Two players have scored more than one league away goal for the Reds this season – Salah has six, twice as many as Nunez.

Liverpool have failed to win in their last four league games and have picked up just two points in that span. Since January 2021, they haven’t gone five consecutive league wins without a win.

Elland Road Landmark

Liverpool’s next goal will be their 200th against Leeds in all competitions and their next away win will be their 250th Premier League away win.

Of the teams’ 105 encounters, Liverpool have won 54 and drawn 26. Leeds’ victory at Anfield last October ended Liverpool’s unbeaten run of 81 league games at home to a full house and 85 with fans at the stadium.

Last season the Reds won 3-0 at Leeds with Mo Salah scoring his 100th Premier League goal.

Liverpool have lost one of their last 13 meetings against Leeds and are unbeaten in their last seven games at Elland Road.

The Reds have scored in all of their games on each of their last nine visits to Leeds (a club record against the Yorkshiremen) – a streak which has extended to 18 home and away. No Liverpool player has ever scored a hat-trick at Leeds Stadium.

Leeds seek the double

Leeds are aiming for their first league double against Liverpool since 2000/01 when they won 4-3 at Elland Road and Mark Viduka scored all four goals.

The only other hat-trick between the sides at Elland Road came in 1991 when Lee Chapman scored three goals in a 5-4 loss to Liverpool.

The win against the Reds of the season was their seventh in their last 50 league games.

Last season Leeds took 15 points from their last 10 games to stay ahead, winning at Brentford on the final day to retain their top-flight status. This is Leeds’ third home game in a row. Patrick Bamford’s goal against Crystal Palace was his 50th goal for Leeds in all competitions.

Leeds have kept clean sheets in their last 13 league and cup games, the 1-0 home win against Southampton in February.

They have conceded 14 goals in their last five games.

At the start of this round, only Southampton (28) have conceded more goals at home than Leeds’ 24. Javi Gracia

Javi Gracia was appointed manager on February 21st. In his seven league games to date, his team have earned 10 points.

He has won three of his seven Premier League games for the Spaniard, as many as he had won in the previous 22 games this season.

Gracia faced Liverpool three times in his managerial career, while at Watford. He has lost all three, conceded 13 and has yet to see his side score against the Reds. The scorers of this season

Liverpool: Salah 24, Nunez 14, Firmino 11, Elliott 5, Diaz 4, Gakpo 4, own goal 4, Alexander-Arnold 3, Carvalho 3, Van Dijk 3, Bajcetic 1, Matip 1, Oxlade-Chamberlain 1

Full Liverpool player available for Leeds at least two out as Luis Díaz set for comeback

Liverpool travel to Yorkshire to take on Leeds United in a game Jurgen Klopp’s side must win and the German is bolstered by the full return of Luis Díaz.

Liverpool travel against Leeds at Elland Road in a game Jurgen Klopp’s side badly need to win later today with little room for error this season.

The Reds have not won a league game since beating Manchester United 7-0 on March 5 and with Champions League hopes dwindling with the game, Liverpool need to win from Yorkshire to cement their place in the board and improve the self-confidence of the team. .

Liverpool are currently eighth in the Premier League table, but a win could put them within two points of seventh-placed Brighton.

Klopp will no doubt be delighted with the return of Luis Díaz as the Colombian will step onto the pitch in a competitive environment for the first time since his injury to Arsenal in early October. Díaz’s absence for most of the season has undoubtedly affected Liverpool’s season in hindsight, so it’s great news for the German that the winger is available.

Thiago Alcântara is another who could start, with the silky Spaniard entering a late cameo against Arsenal last week. Klopp has confirmed that Thiago is 100% fit and likely to start. Only Stefan Bajčetić and Calvin Ramsay remain injured for a long time, while Naby Keïta will be absent.
