This summer, Roberto Firmino is scheduled to transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona, but Jurgen Klopp has already identified the perfect alternative for the striker position.

After it was reported that the Brazilian had consented to a move to Barcelona, Jurgen Klopp stated that Cody Gakpo may fill the vacuum left by Roberto Firmino.

Despite being given new terms, Firmino, 31, who has played with Liverpool since 2015, is expected to leave the team in June when his contract expires. The former Hoffenheim player, who amassed an astounding 109 goals in 360 games during his stint at Anfield, is now anticipated to join the Spanish powerhouses, according to The Mail.

Firmino will be leaving, but Klopp might already have a replacement in mind. Gakpo, a January addition, has excelled since leaving PSV for a sizable sum of money. The Dutchman started at center forward for Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest and has five goals in 14 Premier League games.

After the Reds’ victory on Saturday, Klopp said: “To be honest, it would be a bad decision if you watched international football over the last five or six years as a footballer and you love football, and if you are in a similar role and have a similar job to do in the game, and you didn’t learn anything from Bobby Firmino.

You can see every game because we play in front of an audience. It’s obvious, in my opinion, that Bobby serves as an inspiration for all players in a position like this one.

“Cody is 23 years old, and he was captain of his last club. I had no idea how it could happen so young, but once he arrived here, you realized, ‘Ah OK, he’s a super-smart guy, incredibly open and a good team player,’ and other things. Additionally, a top-notch football player.

He is capable of playing the center, wide, and this position. He can also play the genuine nine, which is little higher up; he can even play the double striker. So, he may design his own path there for the position; we don’t have to do it exactly [the same] because no one can do it as well as Bobby because no one is Bobby.

Gakpo started in a front line that Liverpool’s second consecutive Premier League victory featured Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota on either side. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez were consequently relegated to the bench, but Klopp has justified his decision to keep Gakpo in the lineup.

“That means you have to find your own way, and I think that’s much more important,” Klopp concluded. That is what Cody is doing. Since he is present, I believe Cody performed incredibly well.

That is extremely difficult for a novice player, and we didn’t do that well. Joining the team is extremely challenging because nothing seems to be clicking. During that time, he excelled greatly. And as we progress, perhaps people will become aware of his performances, but that is all. But he has been a true pleasure to work with since he arrived here on day one.
