Rangers chiefs optimistic: £25k/week star likely staying at Ibrox, boosting Clement.

As Rangers prepare for a thrilling finish to the Scottish Premiership title race, they have received some excellent transfer news for Philippe Clement.

Rangers transfer news

It appears to be a busy summer at Ibrox, with several exits expected. Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, and Leon Balogun are all set to leave when their current contracts expire, as things stand. Lundstram’s departure would be especially devastating given Rangers’ unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a new contract.

It appears that some good news is still on the way. According to recent rumors, Rangers are trying to convert loan deals for Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes into permanent signings this summer, giving Clement quite the pair on the wings next season.

It is the type of attacking combo that might help the Gers end Celtic’s current supremacy and provide their manager with a talented team ahead of his first full season, which one player is expected to be a part of.

According to TeamTalk, Rangers believe Jack Butland will stay with the club this summer despite earlier interest from Premier League team Nottingham Forest. The shot-stopper has found his best form since moving to Ibrox last summer and looks likely to repay their faith by shunning a return to England in the coming months.

Butland’s return to form in Scotland might culminate with an England call-up within a year, putting the cherry on top of his career resurrection.

“Top-class” Butland is one of Clement’s most important players

Clement’s success at Rangers will very certainly be attributed to Butland, given his prominence under the Belgian. The Gers manager is also aware of Butland’s quality, having compared him to the greatest he has worked with during his career.

Clement told BBC Sport when comparing Butland to Simon Mignolet: “Over more than 30 years, Jack together with Simon are the two best I have met. He is a really, really top-class goalkeeper for me.

“He almost didn’t have a downfall [make a mistake] in all of our four months together. He is a top goalkeeper but also a top personality, because you can be a really good goalkeeper but not be a leader in the dressing room – but Simon and Jack both are. They’re quite similar – they have some specific different qualities but they’re both leaders with a lot of authority. But really natural, not forced.”

Butland’s brilliance pays him a reputed £25k per week in a deal that should keep the shot-stopper with the Rangers until at least the summer of 2027.
