Before the impending trade deadline, the Raiders have already stated Unequivocally that they will not consider the option of dealing wideout Davante Adams. The best defensive player on the squad feels the same way.

Maxx Crosby, an edge rusher, is not available for trade, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Unsurprisingly, clubs have contacted to find out whether the Raiders would be open to trading for the two-time Pro Bowler, but their inquiries have been met with a “strong no.” Consequently, Crosby will be a part of Adams’ team’s short- and long-term goals.

After recording double-digit sacks twice in his first four seasons in the league, the former has established himself as one of the best edge rushers in the league. Last year, he led the league in tackles for loss (22) and set a new career high in that category (12.5). He also set a new personal record in pressures (47). He would significantly improve the pass rush of any acquiring team for years to come at the age of 26.

Naturally, acquiring Crosby would come at a significant financial cost in draft capital, and his contract would be challenging to pay off. The former fourth-round pick signed a $94 million contract extension in March of last year, extending his contract through 2026. His cap hit for 2023 was reduced by a reorganization during the previous offseason, but it is expected to rise to $24.49 million the following season and then $27.02 million for the next two years. It would be difficult for competing teams to incorporate such contract into their long-term financial framework if no other changes were made.

Naturally, the Raiders have stated that the second season of the Josh McDaniels–Dave Ziegler administration is not the start of a complete rebuild, but rather an extension of their current core-building process. Because of this, it is not shocking that Adams and Crosby are not looking to trade, as the 3-4 team hopes to be competitive in the AFC through the last months of 2023. However, a number of other edge rushers are thought to be available, providing teams interested in Crosby more options to target in the days ahead.
