Portsmouth boosted before Bolton Wanderers match as key player return.

Portsmouth have a chance to secure the League One title this weekend when they travel to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, looking to take all three points.

A magnificent strike from Owen Moxon last Tuesday gave Pompey a crucial point at Fratton Park, a goal that appeared to have a domino effect, as Derby County only managed a point at Adams Park in a goalless draw with Wycombe Wanderers yesterday night.

The result puts John Mousinho’s team seven points clear at the top of the standings as they prepare to play at the Toughsheet Community Stadium this weekend. Furthermore, Pompey’s next game is at home against Barnsley, who have only won one of their previous five games.

Nonetheless, Saturday’s meeting in Greater Manchester will not be simple. Bolton scent blood after the Rams dropped points in two consecutive league games, and an unprecedented success on the south coast may propel them ahead of their promotion rivals.

Portsmouth won the last meeting between the two sides a fortnight before Christmas, thanks to goals from Conor Shaughnessy and Kusini Yengi. Mousinho will be hoping for more of the same in the return match.

Furthermore, the league leaders have received a “real boost” ahead of the top-of-the-table game, according to head coach Mousinho, as Tom Lowery is expected to return to the squad after not playing for the club since February.

During his pre-match press conference, the 37-year-old said [quotes via The News, Portsmouth]

“With Tom, you can probably tell how much we regard him. When he was fit, we added him to the team. He started the opening game of the season, and when he’s been available, we’ve gotten him back into the lineup as quickly as possible.

“He had a tremendous role to play. He hasn’t played much, but when he has, his performance has been excellent, so having him back is a tremendous boost.”
