Plans for £100,000 elderly people’s day care centre plans revealed

Plans for the new daycare facility at Bangor Street Community Center have been made public by Blackburn-based Homecare For You.

The previous senior day care facility in the center, which was run by the council, closed more than ten years ago.
The new daycare center is scheduled to open in the latter part of the summer.
Since its transition to private ownership in 2016 as part of an asset transfer, Bangor Street Community Centre has been operated by a charitable organisation.

Homecare For You said they would be investing £100,000 in bringing the largest unit inside the building up to scratch. The care provider has been redecorating the area for the past four months.

Mahfooz Hussain from Homecare You said the company wanted to reinvest in the local community and realised there was a huge demand for the service for people of all backgrounds.

He said: “This is something we have been looking at for a while and when the opportunity arose at the centre it was too good to turn down.

“We want to establish a location where vulnerable or elderly individuals can visit and spend time.

“We are remodeling the entire space to improve the garden, the main sitting area, and the restrooms.”Visitors will be able to come here to take a shower and learn more about the available local services.

“To give people some respite and to allow them to have a space of their own, a range of services including hair and beauty, eye and hearing tests, as well as a chiropodist, will be available.”

The centre was once home to an elderly day care centre known as “Apna Ghar” (Our House) which closed 14 years ago. The section lay empty until it was revitalised as the council transferred management.

It became home to a disability day care centre – Purple Patch, which outgrew the unit.

Mr Hussain said services would be open to private, public and NHS providers and the aim was for the centre to be Care Quality Commission registered.

“We aim to have a minibus that can cater for up to 40 people at the center and can pick up residents,” he stated.

“Fortunately, the building’s former daycare center has been a huge help to us as we’ve looked at developing this service.”
Homecare For You has offices in Burney, Accrington Preston, and Rochdale and offers services throughout the North West.
