Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has assessed Liverpool’s chances of challenging for the Premier League title.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool and Arsenal will challenge for the Premier League title this season, but insists it is difficult to draw conclusions after just seven games.

Guardiola takes City to north London to face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, just hours after Liverpool traveled to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion.

After winning their first six games of the new campaign, the defending champions suffered their first defeat last weekend when Wolverhampton Wanderers won 2-1 at Molineux.

With Liverpool and Arsenal now trailing City by two and three points respectively, Guardiola admits he expects stiff competition from both sides as his side aim to secure a fourth successive Premier League title.

“For sure [Arsenal are rivals of] Liverpool from what I’ve seen,” Guardiola said ahead of City’s visit to the Emirates. “But to analyze who the title contenders are, the idea is the first 10 games.

“We haven’t even played ten now so we have to wait but the big clubs will always be contenders and Arsenal of course.”

Manchester City will be without Rodri in their clash with last season’s runners-up Arsenal. The Spaniard is serving the third and final game of his three-match ban after being sent off against Nottingham Forest last month.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota at Brighton after both players were sent off in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
