Paul Merson and Chris Sutton agree on prediction of score between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur
Experts have made their predictions for Liverpool’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League
Paul Merson and Chris Sutton both agree Liverpool will get four Premier League wins on Sunday afternoon when they face Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool welcome Spurs to Anfield as both – in all likelihood – battle for fifth place in the Premier League and a place in the Europa League next season. The Reds have found their form in recent weeks after beating Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United. Tottenham, on the other hand, are struggling despite Thursday’s 2-2 home draw against Manchester United who, along with Newcastle United, are expected to secure the last two Champions League places behind Arsenal and Manchester City.
Sutton, a Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers, told BBC Sport Liverpool would win 3-1. He said: “In a way Liverpool’s approach will suit Tottenham because Jurgen Klopp’s side will dominate the ball and Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave gaps if he enters midfield like he does. in his new reversed role.
“Spurs showed a bit of character to fight for a draw against Manchester United, but I really can’t stand them taking anything here as they’ve been so disappointing all season. Liverpool have three straight wins behind them and still want a place in the top four.
“The Reds need to win every game they have left to achieve that – and even that probably won’t be enough.”
Although Spurs displayed some resiliency to battle back and earn a draw against Manchester United, I really can’t back them to win this game because of how disappointing they have been all season. With three straight victories, Liverpool is hot, and they still hope to finish in the top four.
“The Reds need to win every game they have left to have any chance of that, and even that probably won’t be enough.”
Merson, a former Arsenal player, concurred with Sutton’s score prediction and told Sportskeeda, “I’ve got to go with Liverpool here. They have successfully won their last three games in a row. Even if they win every game from this point forward, it’s unlikely to be enough to secure them a spot in the Champions League.
In the opening period of the match against Manchester United, Spurs were jeered off the field. The alterations Erik ten Hag made on Thursday night significantly slowed United’s progress. Spurs entered the game again after the personnel changes. Tottenham might have suffered significantly otherwise.
“Recently, Liverpool appear to have figured out a formula. For Jurgen Klopp’s team recently, Trent has performed superbly. Up front, they are hungry, and they are playing with a lot of assurance right now. Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League are slim until Villa defeats Manchester United.
