After Liverpool’s preseason tour team arrived in Thailand, manager Jurgen Klopp couldn’t help but poke fun at Manchester United.

One day into Liverpool's preseason tour, Jurgen Klopp can't help but poke fun at Manchester United.

The team led by Klopp arrived in Bangkok on Saturday to continue their Premier League preparations. Just one day after their fierce rivals were greeted by significantly fewer supporters, the Reds were surrounded by about 1000 jubilant fans at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The sarcastic German couldn’t resist making fun of United after Liverpool had such a warm welcome. “First question I have, did it look like this yesterday when Manchester United were here,” the Reds manager joked.

The 52,000-seat Rajamangala National Stadium will host the two teams for a preseason friendly match on Tuesday. In the game, Klopp will meet Erik ten Hag, the new manager of United, for the first time since the Dutchman took over at Old Trafford.

Since United have been practicing for a little bit longer than Liverpool, who returned to play later than other teams after competing in the Champions League final back in May, Klopp thinks United may have a tiny advantage over his club.

Klopp continued: “Manchester United, with a new manager, may be in a better position because they have trained a little bit longer than we have. But because it’s against United and we don’t play friendlies, we view it as a crucial test. Since neither team plays a friendly match against the other, we’ll see what we can do.”

With Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez, and Calvin Ramsey all traveling with the Reds, Tuesday’s game will be some Liverpool supporters’ first opportunity to see their new summer acquisitions.

After concluding his summer transfer to Bayern last month, Mane will be absent from Liverpool for the first time, but they won’t be the only team lacking one of last season’s standout players in Thailand.

Ronaldo, who is currently returning to his native Portugal for “family issues,” will not be present for the entirety of United’s preseason tour. Just last week, the seasoned striker made it clear that if a good offer for his services comes this summer, he would like to leave the club.
