Nottingham Forest’s statement criticized as ’embarrassing’ by . . .

Nottingham Forest have been criticised for their “embarrassing” statement following their defeat to Everton.

On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke confessed Forest’s social media post was “ill-judged” and most likely came from the club’s hierarchy rather than the media staff.

According to sources, club owner Evangelos Marinakis planned to issue a statement at halftime criticizing the match referees for their decisions in the 2-0 loss at Goodison Park.

Forest said they informed PGMOL before the game that VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton Town fan, but they chose not to change the appointment.

O’Rourke confessed he initially sympathized with the team when three questionable penalty appeals were denied during the game, but that rapidly evaporated when they issued the “dangerous” statement after the game.

Nottingham Forest could receive punishment for statement

Forest has been severely lambasted over the past week for publicly venting their grievances with officials.

It’s unknown who made the statement, but many believe it came from Marinakis himself.

O’Rourke believes there is no conspiracy against the Nottingham club and that the officials just made mistakes on the day.

Forest could face sanctions as a result of the event, as the FA and Premier League stated they are investigating.

The club does not need any more sanctions after already losing four points this season for violating the league’s spending regulations.
