Nottingham Forest in contact to sign £7k-p/w star

Nottingham Forest could well have identified their first signing of the summer, but will have to pay a premium to get the deal done, according to one report.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s team is destined to continue in the Premier League for at least another season, despite a very disappointing season overall and a points deduction for breaking the league’s financial fair play rules.

The City Ground team just needs three points from their final two games to guarantee their spot in the top division the following season, while a point against Chelsea this weekend may possibly suffice in the event that neither Luton nor Burnley win.

But the problems don’t stop there for Forest, as it has emerged that they are likely to need to sell one of their star men again this summer to remain compliant with Premier League regulations, just 12 months after parting ways with Brennan Johnson.

Newfound star Murillo and midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White appear to be the most likely candidates to leave, and it appears that should the former depart the City Ground, the Midlands outfit have already lined up his successor.

The Reds are reportedly one of three Premier League teams attempting to recruit promising Toulouse defender Logan Costa, according to French publication L’Equipe.

The six-foot-three center-back has made 29 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, scoring one goal and providing an assist. He also represented Cape Verde at the Africa Cup of Nations, where South Africa eliminated his team on penalties.

His form has caught the eye of Premier League sides, with Forest and Fulham both keen as well as another unnamed club, and the French outlet claim that a “big transfer” is “looming” for the 23-year-old.

Forest may be that move, and they’ve already taken the initiative by contacting the defender. With two years remaining on his £7k-per-week contract in the south of France, Costa’s departure from Toulouse is expected to cost Toulouse more than 20 million euros ($16 million).

In an ideal world, they would like to break the existing record cost of £20 million, which Issa Diop moved to West Ham United for in 2018. However, it is unclear if they will be able to achieve a record sale for another potential young defender.

Atletico Madrid and Villarreal of La Liga are also rumored to be interested. Diego Simeone’s team is specifically looking for a new defender because Mario Hermoso is expected to go on a free transfer this summer.

But if Murillo left the City Ground, Forest would have the money to pay Toulouse what he wanted for Costa, and they might be in the running to sign him.
