Newcastle interested in bargain for peterborough striker

Newcastle United is one of the clubs interested in Peterborough United striker Ricky-Jade Jones as they seek to improve their striking options this summer.

Eddie Howe’s squad now has only two recognised first-team strikers: Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Due to financial fair play rules, the Magpies may be looking for a bargain, and the Peterborough striker might provide exactly that.

Newcastle interested in League One striker

Jones, 21, has sparked interest from a number of major teams, according to Chronicle Live, after scoring 12 goals for The Posh this season.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony is allegedly expecting interest in the striker during the summer transfer window, with the forward estimated to be worth approximately £2 million.

MacAnthony has been discussing Jones’ future and stated that he is confident in reaching a decent deal for the striker.

“We have data that show Ricky is the best presser in League One,” MacAnthony told the Hard Truth podcast.

“Of course, he should have 20 goals by now, and the supporters have every right to complain, but some of it has been over the top.

“If Posh supporters don’t want him, I’ll have clubs offer millions for him this summer. “I already have.”

Jones’ pushing style may appeal to Howe, who prefers to have his team play a high-pressing game, which the striker would benefit from if he joined the club.

According to Chronicle Live, Howe will give promising striker Yankuba Minteh another chance in preseason after his loan spell at Feyenoord, but the Magpies remain short on strikers.

Newcastle’s whole emphasis will be on the final six games of the season as they attempt to qualify for the Europa League and begin on a European campaign for the second consecutive season.
