Morecambe boss denies Accrington Stanley rumors.

Ged Brannan has given no promise that he will be Morecambe’s manager next season as the club prepares to complete this season on Saturday.

The Shrimps travel to Swindon Town following a very disappointing last seven weeks on and off the pitch.

Eight defeats in ten have dropped them from eighth position, out of the League Two play-offs on goal difference, to sixteenth.

They have also received a three-point deduction and are under embargo, resulting in a stalemate in contract negotiations with players.

Against this context, Brannan has been linked with a return to Accrington Stanley as assistant to new manager John Doolan.

When asked about his future plans, Brannan, who signed an 18-month contract to replace Derek Adams last November, replied: “I’m a positive person, I’m happy, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of being here.

“Where I’m sitting (in his office), I have 24 players on the board.

“One player (Charlie Brown) has signed on, and nine or ten were offered contracts two or three months ago, but none of them can sign (due to the embargo), and they all have other possibilities.

“We’ll see what happens in the next week or two, and we’ll hear what the board says.

“With an embargo, no funds, and only one player for next season, what would you do?

“If we start the next season with a young squad and lose five or six games, who gets fired?”

“I’m not money-driven but there comes a time when you’ve got to think what’s the best option for yourself – and with what I’ve just said, tell me what’s the best option?”
