Liverpool
Merson believes Liverpool have made the wrong kind of player signings this summer and I fear for them.

Paul Merson thinks Liverpool will look back and rue its summer acquisitions. He believes that the Reds should have made purchases in one particular area.
Paul Merson questions whether Liverpool made mistakes this summer. Although the Reds have brought in three players for their first team, they have not succeeded in acquiring the specific kind of player he feels they need.
Beyond him, there’s really Thiago, James Milner, and Jordan Henderson. With that bunch, in my opinion, they are just scraping by, which is unacceptable for a team like Liverpool.
You may not see it as much because the forwards are scoring and the full backs are creating, but it’s not like it used to be. The heart of everything used to be Liverpool’s midfield. It had everything and made it possible for the rest of the team to work as one well-oiled machine.
“But Henderson is getting on now. Thiago for me is very inconsistent. Milner has been a warrior for them but is 36. And they’ve never been able to rely on Naby Keita.
Given that Liverpool has serious concerns about several of their midfielders, it is clear where Merson is coming from. He names Thiago and Henderson, two players of the highest caliber who rarely maintain their fitness for a complete season. Milner is 36 years old, Keita is erratic, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who Merson leaves out, has a history of injuries.
However, we also believe that this overreaction is unwarranted and, if we’re being completely honest, it’s the same overreaction people have every year when this Liverpool team is involved. They constantly criticize the midfield and debate whether the Reds could have done more.
And it turns out that everything is OK every single year. In fact, just a year ago, many believed that Gini Wijnaldum would leave Liverpool and that the club lacked the options to replace him.
The Reds then proceeded to play every single game, taking home two championships and placing second in another two.
Plus, there’s a perception that Liverpool doesn’t want to sign a midfielder since they believe their top target will be free in 2023. The wait would be more than worthwhile if we managed to get Jude Bellingham next summer, especially because we know this bunch is capable of producing championships.
