Sporting Lisbon is thought to value the 23-year-old midfielder at £43 million, a price that only Wolves have thus far indicated they would be willing to match.

Nunes is not only being sought after by Liverpool and Wolves; Manchester City and Spurs are also interested in signing him.

According to a Correio da Manha story, Sporting had already lined up Ricardo Horta from Braga as their replacement.

In many ways, Klopp’s decision to sign the Portuguese international would be excellent.

He will start by enhancing the quality of their depth in the park’s middle.

Jürgen Klopp now has a solid selection of players to choose from in that part of the field, but there is a noticeable dip in quality when players like Thiago, Fabinho, and Jordan Henderson aren’t available.

Nunes would help fill that gap to some extent because to his technical prowess and ability to deftly handle an adversarial press.

From a Liverpool perspective, Nunes’ profile also provides the perfect level of specificity. What the Reds lack in their team is a comparable Thiago Alcantara substitute.

Since joining Liverpool, Thiago has never been able to start more than 25 games in a league season, and he is already approaching the age of 30.

And he is missed when he is absent, which happens rather frequently.

Given that the two players have similar features in their profiles, Nunes is the kind of player who may take the place of the Spaniard.

Importantly, signing Nunes wouldn’t have to affect Liverpool’s possible pursuit of Jude Bellingham next summer because they are quite different midfielders.
