Liverpool was warned that Luis Diaz’s flaws would cost them a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Liverpool will likely struggle to finish in the top four this season, according to William Gallas, since Luis Diaz is insufficient to fill Sadio Mane’s shoes.

After losing just two of their 38 league games, Jurgen Klopp’s team finished second in the Premier League last season, one point behind winners Manchester City. In 28 games in all competitions, Diaz has contributed with six goals and five assists, making a solid start to life at Liverpool. Given that he started the 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday with Firmino and Salah, he appears to be a significant component of Liverpool’s new front line.

With six new players added to Antonio Conte’s squad, Tottenham looks to be one of Liverpool’s main rivals at the top of the league this season. Despite Tottenham’s dominating 4-1 victory over Southampton over the weekend, Gallas believes it is too soon to assess the team.
