EXCLUSIVE: Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is being chased by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool over a cheap summer deal after the Reds were left out of a move for Jude Bellingham

Kalvin Phillips’ future is up in the air ahead of the summer window.

Liverpool are looking to sign Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips for £35m this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has targeted the England international after being left out of a move for Jude Bellingham.

Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield options ahead of next season and has made Phillips one of his top targets.

Liverpool have reportedly announced Phillips is on their radar – and the 27-year-old is open to a move to Anfield.

Phillips joined City from Leeds last summer in a £50m deal and was delighted to have the chance to play for Pep Guardiola. PROMOTED STORIES

Liverpool have had to pull out of the race for Kalvin Phillips England teammate Jude Bellingham.

In September he underwent shoulder surgery which kept him out of action until the start of the World Cup in Qatar.

And although he played for England in the tournament, Phillips found himself sidelined when he returned to the Etihad after a break in New York with his friends. Guardiola was less than impressed when Phillips took the full nine days’ holiday allowance before returning to Manchester without the expected fitness.

Guardiola publicly criticized Phillips before Christmas after he claimed he returned from the World Cup overweight and banned him from training because he was out of shape.

Since then, Phillips has become an outcast, starting just two games in all competitions.

He hasn’t played a single league game since joining the English champions and was even overlooked for last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final win against Sheffield United, despite Guardiola not picking Rodri.

Phillips knows he will always play second fiddle to Spanish international Rodri. And despite strong interest from West Ham, Phillips would welcome the chance to restart his career at Anfield and boost his chances of being involved in next summer’s European Championship with England.

Chelsea move to break Liverpool hearts as Todd Boehly lines up blockbuster move for Reds favourite amid great opportunity

Chelsea could break the hearts of Liverpool fans by signing one of Jurgen Klopp’s famous three this summer, according to a sensational report.

Klopp will only be able to field Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino next season as the latter prepares to leave Anfield. His contract expires in June so he can look for a new club on a free transfer.

Mane has already left Liverpool after joining Bayern Munich in a £35m move last summer.

Liverpool fans will have been deeply saddened that Mane left after all he achieved on Merseyside and the same goes for Firmino.

But at least the Reds participants will be able to enjoy Salah’s performances for a few more years. His contract runs until the summer of 2025 and he shows no signs of wanting to leave Liverpool.

Moreover, the far right remains a major threat. He has registered 27 goals and 11 assists in 44 games this season in all competitions.

But Salah could face Mane in the Premier League Golden Boot race next season. According to Football Insider, Chelsea have shown a shocking interest in the Bayern man.

Chelsea need a new centre-forward to lead their attack next season. They are interested in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but will struggle to sign him without breaking the rules of financial fair play after spending so much money in the last two transfer windows.

Chelsea linked to shock dive Bayern

Future new Telegraph manager Mauricio Pochettino will offer Romelu Lukaku a lifeline, helping him get his Chelsea career back on track next season. But instead, Football Insider discussed the possibility of Mane going to Stamford Bridge.

Mane is apparently in Todd Boehly’s sights as the Chelsea chairman looks to add goals to the squad.

Although the Senegalese has recently joined Bayern, they will be hearing offers for him in the summer after meeting team-mate Leroy Sane.

Mane wants to put that incident behind him and focus on becoming a success at the Allianz Arena. But Bayern’s managers simply can’t ignore him and are hoping to get rid of him, with Chelsea as a possible target.

Liverpool fans would be upset if Mane represented one of their ‘big six’ Premier League rivals. He became a hero at Anfield due to his brilliant goal scoring ability, his excellent play with Salah and Firmino and his tireless running.

There are rumors that Mane could return to Liverpool as he has apparently been telling friends that he misses the club. Former Reds defender Kolo Toure has admitted Klopp lacks Mane’s “big personality”, although he urged the German to put his faith in new forwards Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez.

“I think he will stick with them [Gakpo and Nunez]. He needs to give them time to show they are capable to fit to the Liverpool team,” Toure said. “As a player, you have to do your best to show you are capable of performing for them. If you don’t, it’s going to be the next one [player].

“Jurgen is a great manager; he’s doing a great job. I think he’s trying to find players who are going to have the chemistry to keep the team fighting for the title.”
