Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on the wealth of young talent at Liverpool
Stefan Bajcetic is the standout player according to Klopp.
Liverpool had a disappointing end to the 2022–23 season with confirmation that the club will play in the Europa League next year. But Jurgen Klopp is reassured by the number of young stars who have been thrust into the spotlight this year.
Youngsters Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho have all made a positive impression and reinforce the squad for future duties.
“In my opinion, Stefan [Bajcetic] is definitely the outstanding player among the very young, that was extraordinary. Played like a man, unfortunately in a child’s body, and then the intensity caught him, if you will. But the signs he’s given us are super, super promising,” Klopp said.
The 18-year-old Spaniard joined Liverpool from Celta Vigo in 2020 and made his senior debut this season.
“Harvey [Elliott] has always played a lot of games for us, a lot of games for us at a not so good time; Still very, very young, so I couldn’t compete at the highest level, but I still showed very good signs. “It will only go in one direction and that’s forwards,” Klopp added.
And of course, young scouser Curtis Jones has also improved this season. “It’s a long road to becoming the best version, because you’re young, you have high expectations, massive outside criticism and all those things, and it’s not easy to navigate.” And I’m really glad that Curtis finally got to do it, which of course is very important to us, because our own boy is making great progress. It’s cool,” Klopp said.
Klopp also mentioned that Fabio Carvalho could be loaned out next season.
“The fact is that it was certainly not the best year for Fabio in his young career, but it was perhaps his most important. No player has impressed me more than Fabio. That is the truth, because this very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations,” he said.

Liverpool manager gives injury updates ahead of Southampton clash
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed Darwin Nunez is set to be back in contention for Sunday’s Premier League final against Southampton, but Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have fresh doubts.
Jurgen Klopp states Liverpool injury update ahead of Southampton clash
Uruguay striker Nunez suffered a toe injury ahead of the Reds’ 3-0 win over Leicester City two Mondays ago, forcing him to give up that success at the King Power.
Klopp later revealed that Nunez suffered from a “very painful” inflamed tendon and was also missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old was pictured back in training with the team earlier this week, though, and Klopp confirmed that he will be in with a chance of returning for the clash at St Mary’s.
However, the Reds have also been handed two fresh defensive concerns, as Konate and Robertson will both need assessing due to illness and a groin twinge respectively.
“He [Nunez] trained yesterday, fully. Ibou was sick yesterday. Robbo felt something in his groin yesterday, he did a scan, it was fine, but we have to see how to deal with it anyway,” Klopp told reporters. in his pre-game press conference. “The long-term [injured] players are still out, that’s for sure. The rest should be fine.”
Liverpool’s long-term injury list includes Thiago Alcantara (hip), Stefan Bajcetic (adductor) and Calvin Ramsay (knee), while Naby Keita has not been on the pitch since he suffered a muscle injury at the last stop for the nationals. Keita is one of four Liverpool players – along with Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – who have been confirmed to leave the club when their contracts expire this summer, and they were paid tribute to the quartet in their recent clash with Aston Villa.
Coming off the bench, Firmino made a late equalizer in his farewell appearance at Anfield last Saturday, keeping Liverpool’s Champions League qualification hopes alive before Manchester United meet Chelsea in mid-week.
A win for the Blues at Old Trafford would last the race for a top four finish until the final day, but Manchester United beat their London counterparts 4-1 to secure a top four finish and send Liverpool in the Europa League. season.
As a result, the Reds have nothing of note to play on Sunday and Klopp has hinted he will make changes to his line-up and potentially allow some outgoing players their final start in the Liverpool shirt.
“I can’t remember the last time we played on the last day and everything was settled. Normally we play and everything is at stake,” added Klopp.
“We want to play to win and that’s the only reason we need it. It makes sense to make changes.” To have fresh legs and use players who want to show something.
After confirming that Liverpool would play in the 2023-24 Europa League, Mohamed Salah claimed in a strong social media post that his side had let their fans down, and Klopp responded to that during Friday’s press conference as well than at the Egyptian embassy.
