Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita: Liverpool injury news and return dates ahead of Leicester City

Liverpool injury news: Latest updates from Jürgen Klopp’s squad ahead of the final three games of this season, including where Roberto Firmino stands on his recovery.

Liverpool couldn’t have asked for better on Sunday. After beating Brentford with a goal from Mohamed Salah on Saturday, the two teams immediately above the Reds in the Premier League table lost.

Martin Ødegaard put Arsenal on the path to victory over Newcastle United before a howler from David de Gea allowed West Ham United to win by a goal to nil against Manchester United.

That still leaves Liverpool in need of more favors (as well as winning the remaining three matches), but the picture is much better than before, that’s for sure. With matches remaining against Leicester City, Aston Villa and Southampton, Liverpool can only do their own homework against the teams they face while hoping the others slip into the Champions League race.

Two draws against Manchester United would be enough, while Newcastle would have to lose twice more, which seems a little less likely given the form Eddie Howe’s side have shown this year.

Here are the facts on Liverpool’s latest injury news after beating Brentford 1-0 at the weekend, with some players playing out their final minutes this season – and possibly for the club.

The Liverpool pair had doubts ahead of the game with Brentford but both surfaced, with Diogo Jota starting the game and Jordan Henderson coming on as a substitute in the 73rd minute.

Both should be fully recovered from their injuries (Jota suffered a back injury against West Ham while Henderson underwent a CT scan before the weekend) when Liverpool travel to Leicester City in a week. Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita

With just three games left in their Liverpool careers, Firmino and Keïta face a race against time to return to action or they could have played their last few minutes for the club.

“Bobby isn’t in squad practice yet,” Klopp said at his pre-Brentford press conference on Friday. “Hopefully he can start team training next week.”

News of Liverpool’s move amid a $66m ‘deal’ and Jürgen Klopp ‘closer’ to a deal than Rino (and Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) is May 20.

All three players will be missing until the end of the season, but the plan is for each of them to return in time to start pre-season, with Thiago now undergoing surgery to fully recover from a hip problem in time.

Stefan Bajčetić and Calvin Ramsay are also out of the remaining games this season, but both have great futures ahead of them at Anfield once these issues get over

Man United boss Erik ten Hag sends Liverpool message to his squad amid Manchester United 134-day Champions League fear

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has told his side what it takes to beat Liverpool after the race for fourth place in the Champions League resumes.

Until last week, Manchester United had a comfortable lead over Liverpool in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

After beating Aston Villa 1-0, Manchester United entered the final month of the season seven points clear of their rivals after playing one game fewer.

Erik ten Hag’s side was surely looking ahead at third-place Newcastle United rather than over its shoulder at the Reds.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Manchester United boss Ten Hag urged his players not to focus on the Liverpool threat.

He insists the League Cup winners will do well in the Champions League race as long as they correct their recent mistakes.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has told his squad what to do to beat Liverpool to a Champions League spot after the race for fourth was reignited.

Up until last week, Manchester United held a comfortable cushion over Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification.

However, two 1-0 defeats in the space of four days away to Brighton and West Ham United have significantly changed the picture.

After Liverpool extended their winning streak to six with victories over Fulham and Brentford, the gap narrowed to just one point. Manchester United still retain a playing hand but things look much more nervous for the Red Devils.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Manchester United boss Ten Hag urged his players not to focus on the threat of Liverpool.

He insists the League Cup winners will be fine in the Champions League race as long as they correct their recent errors

It’s not about Liverpool, it’s about us and thanks to the table, we have everything in our hands” he said.

“If we carry our performance and standards, we will win matches. We don’t have to look at others, we have to look at ourselves and find a way to win and get back to our level.”

Liverpool.com says: While Ten Hag is smart to publicly call for calm, he must have private concerns.

Manchester United entered the top four by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 on 27 December and remained there for 134 days. Collapsing so late in the season would be embarrassing for the Dutchman in his first year in charge and undo much of his good work.

In any case, the calendar looks favorable to Manchester United. He’s only beaten one top 12 on the road, but has no more of those assignments left, with three of his four games at Old Trafford.
