Jurgen Klopp admits he’s ‘a bit happy’ to see Chelsea struggling after the Blues’ £600m transfer bonus and claims Todd Boehly and co would have life for any manager with a policy scattergun transfer “almost IMPOSSIBLE”.

Jurgen Klopp admits he’s ‘a bit lucky’ to have seen Chelsea’s struggles this season, with the Liverpool manager insisting the Blues’ approach to the transfer market is not an example to follow .
Chelsea are currently 12th in the Premier League despite spending over £600m on new signings in the 2022-23 season.
The Blues brought in eight new faces in the January transfer window, including the record £105m move of Enzo Fernandez to the UK and the £88m signing of Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk .
Despite the transfer spend, Chelsea struggled on the pitch, resulting in the Blues sacking Graham Potter in early April and installing Frank Lampard as the club’s caretaker manager.
Potter’s short reign, taken over by Thomas Tuchel in September, was reportedly hampered by the bloated size of the Blues squad. Jurgen Klopp admits he’s ‘a bit happy’ to have seen Chelsea’s struggles this seasonChelsea have had a torrid season despite spending over £600m on new players
Players would have been forced to train on separate pitches, with additional space required to accommodate team changes.
Klopp believes the Blues’ struggles were ‘good to watch’ as he suggested Chelsea ownership had given their coaches an ‘impossible task’.
The Liverpool manager pointed to Chelsea’s woes in an interview with Sky Sports as evidence that the squad needs to be put together carefully before the Reds rebuild this summer.
“To be honest I feel a little bit for Chelsea because things aren’t going well, I think they’re a top team but on the other hand it’s good to see you’re not just pulling together the best players and you can think it’s working,” Klopp said.
“You have to build a team and the boys underestimated that and gave their coaches an almost impossible task. “You can’t have two dressing rooms, you can’t train on two pitches, you have to build relationships, you have to build team spirit, and that’s the only reason I’m a bit happy with this.
“Chelsea will eventually do well and be incredibly strong next year, but I’m just using them as an example. At the top level, no, we can’t do it like that. And that’s what we won’t do.
“You have to bring in the right players and build a new team. This team has written a sensational story and now we are starting a new one, that’s it.’
Klopp had previously commented on Chelsea’s spending in January, with the German responding to their spending by saying he believed in ‘coaching, development and team building’.
Liverpool are expected to spend when the summer transfer window opens, with Klopp having a ‘positive’ meeting with main owner John W Henry in London on Tuesday.
Klopp has insisted that Liverpool’s rebuilding will not be as big as some people think.
The Reds are looking to finish off a sub-par season at a high level and face Tottenham on Sunday in a game that could prove key to determining next season’s European qualification.
A Liverpool win at Anfield would move Klopp’s side above fifth-placed Tottenham to a spot in the Europa League.
