Leeds United eyeing bid for 23-goal star renowned for quality.

Leeds United are ready to face Norwich City in the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-finals at Carrow Road this Sunday.

The Whites had a difficult finale to the regular season, missing out on automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, as Leicester City and Ipswich Town ended in first and second place.

Daniel Farke’s side has won one and lost four of their past six league games, and they must now forget about their recent bad form in order to return to their top level against the Canaries in a big encounter next weekend.

Leeds are still in contention for promotion back to the Premier League, but they must first knock David Wagner’s club out of the play-offs before defeating Southampton or West Bromwich Albion at Wembley Stadium.

Despite the fact that their divisional status for the 2024/25 season is still uncertain, the Whites are apparently looking at a potential signing to improve their team if they make it to the top level this month.

Leeds plotting bid to sign former Premier League marksman

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Leeds are interested in signing Fenerbahce centre-forward Michy Batshuayi during the forthcoming summer transfer window.

According to the report, the Yorkshire club is interested in the Belgian international and will try to sign him from the Super Lig if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Batshuayi, who formerly played in the English top division with Chelsea and Crystal Palace, is out of contract at the end of this season and will be a free agent unless his team can persuade him to sign an extension.

If the Whites win the play-offs, they will make an offer to bring the seasoned number nine to Elland Road, but it is unclear whether the player is keen in making the transfer.

Leeds are reportedly planning a bid for the Fenerbahce star, but it is unclear how much they are willing to pay him to move to Yorkshire this summer.

While Farke’s side must first win their play-off matches to gain promotion to the Premier League before considering this signing, Batshuayi might thrive in the final third next season and beyond, with current sensation Crysencio Summerville.

Crysencio Summerville’s Championship form for Leeds

The Dutch star had a fantastic season in the Championship, showcasing his ability to score and create goals from the left flank.

With his quickness, mobility, finishing, passing, and crossing abilities, he has the potential to be a continuous menace to opposing defences, which helped him win the Championship Player of the Season title.

The former Feyenoord teenager played little in the 2022/23 Premier League season, starting only 12 matches in 28 appearances as his team was relegated.

Relegation to the second division gave the 22-year-old dynamo the opportunity to play week in and week out, honing his skills as a crucial figure in the club’s assault.

As shown in the table above, the right-footed winger has had a very successful year in the final third, with 28 direct goals in 43 games.

Summerville may also be fair in being unhappy with his colleagues for not making the most of his exceptional ingenuity in the league.

He has only nine assists from 17 ‘big chances’ produced, with an xA of 12.53, indicating that his teammates have been inefficient in front of goal at times.

His current centre-forward colleagues have struggled with finishing; Georginio Rutter has six goals from 14.7 xG, while Patrick Bamford has eight goals from 11.11 xG.

Leeds might now team him with a striker who has been lethal in front of goal this season by signing Batshuayi on a free transfer in the summer, as John Hartson once declared he has “genuine quality”.

Why Leeds should sign Michy Batshuayi

If the Whites win promotion to the Premier League, they should proceed with a deal for the Belgian striker, as reported. He is an experienced forward who has been in terrific form this season.

He is a number nine with experience in English football, having scored 25 goals in 77 matches for Chelsea and eight goals in 33 games for Palace, implying that the gifted ace will not require much time to adjust to the country.

That may make him a safer option for the club than, say, a young striker who has never played in the Premier League or in England, given there is already proof of him scoring goals in the league the side hopes to play in later this season.

His form in Turkey during the 2023/24 season also indicates that Leeds would be bringing in a striker who is in form and full of confidence ahead of next season.

As shown in the table above, Batshuayi has been in lethal form for Fenerbahce in the Super Lig, scoring 11 goals with an xG of 10.82 and striking once every 55 minutes on average.

The 30-year-old great, who has scored 23 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, is an efficient finisher, as evidenced by his performance against his xG, and might thrive alongside Summerville.

Batshuayi, who has 43 goals in 72 games for Fenerbahce since the beginning of last season, has the potential to provide substantially stronger finishing than Bamford and Rutter, depending on the trio’s respective goalscoring records.

As a result, the Belgian star might be a superb purchase to pair with Summerville, whose exceptional ingenuity could present the striker with ample opportunities to be a prolific goalscorer next season.
