Since Jürgen Klopp’s arrival at Merseyside nearly eight years ago, there are just three players left at Liverpool, all of whom have already achieved a high status at the club. But we could be entering the final month of a Reds stalwart’s spell at Anfield and there is no doubt he will be greatly missed.
When Roberto Firmino announced last month that he would not extend his stay at Liverpool beyond the end of this season, it looked like the beginning of the end of an era. However, the Brazilian is probably not the only long-time Kop favorite heading for the exit door at the end of this season.
Although no concrete news has surfaced on the future of James Milner, the emergence of Brighton & Hove Albion links, according to The Athletic, may well suggest that the popular Yorkshireman will move on at the end of this mandate. With the versatile utility player expected to turn 38 by the middle of next season, his departure seems somewhat inevitable. In January it seemed the door was still open for an approach from FSG and the club, but no fan would berate the super-fit veteran for playing regularly, rather than playing a support role for Liverpool. At the turn of the year after a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Klopp explained the situation surrounding Milner’s future, saying: “We have other plans for Milly, but Milly wants to continue playing.
“When you see him play last night, I think everyone understands that. You can’t judge him normally by his age. He’s 37, it doesn’t look like he trains one day.” “He’s an incredibly important player and in this match you (Wolves) also saw him on the pitch. It’s not like Milly expects to play 64 games a season but in 64 games a season Milly can be hugely important. That’s how Milly has got reached 600 games and most for Liverpool.
