Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool plan to give ‘incredible’ youngster temporary exit
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaks at a pre-game press conference away to Southampton in the final Premier League game
Jurgen Klopp has again hinted that Fabio Carvalho could be added to Liverpool’s starting list on a temporary transfer this summer – but has no desire to endorse similar moves for other young first-team players.
Liverpool will say goodbye to five players after Sunday’s final Premier League game at relegated Southampton: James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out when their contracts expire and Arthur Melo on loan , returns to the regular players support the Juventus club.
A number of other players are also likely to leave in the coming weeks, although the Reds are not considering a permanent Carvalho departure, despite a frustrating first season after joining from Fulham in which he was limited to only eight tenures.
And while Klopp was open to the 20-year-old on loan, he made it a point to praise the attacking midfielder’s attitude.
Jurgen Klopp reacts to Mohamed Salah’s ‘destructive’ statement and apology
“I think there could be a possibility that Fabio could be loaned out, but the fact is that it was not Fabio’s best year of his career, of course, but it could have been his most important,” said the manager of Liverpool. “No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth. “This talented guy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn’t work out. It was okay at first, but it didn’t work out in the end. But his work ethic will give him a fantastic career, because he trained with nothing to obtain.
“Players only have one problem every week, you field me or put me in your squad. That’s the only thing a player can be happy about. If I don’t, it’s about how the player reacts and his reactions – in a row – I’ve never seen that before. Amazing. I don’t know if he will be loaned out, but if we keep him, we’ll see.”
Unlike Carvalho, there are no plans for Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott – who have become first-team regulars this season – and breakthrough midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, 18, to make similar loan moves .
“We want to keep them if we can definitely give them a chance to play because they have the quality,” Klopp said on Friday.
“The next generation is another story but Conor Bradley is coming back. I saw him yesterday and felt he had grown since he was at another club and we have high hopes for him, Luke Chambers comes back, other guys come back, Owen Beck is back now.
“We have real talent, Tyler Morton is coming back and we will see what happens because he is currently injured.” We’ll see, no real plans, pre-season will be the star and then we’ll make those decisions.”
