Joe Gomez’s “best years” are still ahead of him - Jurgen Klopp

Gomez was given a new long-term contract by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who praised his “excellent” abilities. This comes despite the central defender suffering a series of catastrophic injuries.

Following the central defender’s rather unexpected new five-year contract agreement with the team, Jurgen Klopp assured Liverpool supporters that Joe Gomez’s best was yet to come.

The 25-year-old formed a strong partnership with Virgil Van Dijk back in 2017–18 but has since missed 444 days of action. He has 11 England caps to his name but none since 2020.

Following his eight appearances in the Premier League over the course of 2021–2022, Klopp and the Liverpool staff decided he had shown enough to grant him a lucrative new contract that lasts until the summer of 2027.

“As a club, we have had a lot of good, very wonderful news lately, and this is some more,” Klopp said in a statement to Liverpoolfc.com.

Joe is a gifted individual. He is a superb human being as well as a superb defender. He has so many positive traits.

Knowing that he will continue his journey with us is a huge boost, one that everyone who loves Liverpool FC and cares about its present and future should be incredibly happy about. I could talk about them all day.
