Jamie Carragher leads Liverpool fans’ praise for ‘Gini Wijnaldum like’ Curtis Jones

Curtis Jones made his third consecutive start for Liverpool and showed a strong performance at Leeds, confirming Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him.
Before draws with Chelsea and Arsenal and Monday night’s 6-1 win over Leeds, Jones had started just two games all season.
But Klopp has handed him consecutive starts for the first time since the start of 2022, in a run of five consecutive starts against Brentford, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Cardiff and Leicester.
It comes in a season plagued by continued fitness problems, with Jones unable to train regularly, but both he and his manager are now hopeful that he has made a full recovery.

The confidence Klopp showed starting the 22-year-old against an in-form Thiago at Elland Road was rewarded with a mature performance that included an assist for Diogo Jota’s second.
In his post-match analysis, Jamie Carragher praised Jones’ “incredible” pass, while being one of many to tweet praising the Scouser:

Brilliant from Curtis Jones!
Jota has a goal and an assist, he never saw that coming after his first 30 minutes!!! #LEELIV

Curtis Jones has shown how good he is in the last three games. Still just 22 and just under 100 games for a Liverpool side that have won everything in recent years. Has a big role to play in the future if he can get rid of the injuries.

Curtis Jones just showed who he is and what he can do. He’s had to be patient with injuries and a lack of chances, but that’s what he can do with minutes. Jurgen Klopp’s reaction finally said it all.

“He is our best midfielder since he arrived”.

Enough to take away tonight but I thought Curtis Jones was excellent; governed by possession and decisive in the final third. After an 18 month nightmare, hopefully he can use that as a starting point. In his day, Liverpool don’t have many like him.

I just saw his assist for Jota for the first time and he is absolutely brilliant. He has the confidence to take the ball off Gakpo’s toes and ignore Salah’s easy pass.
Telling the confidence of him in the second half.

Another good performance was that of Curtis Jones. 100% dribbling completed (4/4)
4 progressive passages
1 deputy
2/5 tackles won

“Either Trent or Curtis was MOTM for me.
“Curtis was constantly pushing the ball uphill and was strong on the ball, constantly wobbling in tight spaces. His ball for Jota was exquisite.

Curtis Jones can and is a player. Whether he could stay in shape and do it regularly is another matter. I’ll get the same guys saying I’m only loyal because it’s homegrown, I’m loyal because I think it’s quality and we didn’t pay for it. #LFC

No, but Curtis Jones tonight?
Watching him thrive after a few decent games is so so so satisfying. Keep hooking up my guy @curtisjr_10

“Curtis did really well too. He shut down, rushed, got out of tough spots. He reminded me of a certain Gini, but with great passing and courage to face the players.”
– Liverpool to Melbourne in This Is Anfield comments.
Jones today ????

@curtisjr_10 was also in class. Refreshing to see. There’s a player in there – everything was done tonight with speed and energy – sometimes the only thing the game lacked was him. It’s great to see him starting consecutive #LFC #YNWA matches as well

It’s heartening to see Jones feeling so confident and calm, both personally and collectively, after a frustrating season.
Now in his fourth full season with the first team, the academy graduate was expected to step up and become a reliable option in Klopp’s midfield, but a stress reaction injury ended that.
However, he looks poised to make up for lost time these last few months of the season and it would come as no surprise to see him start again when Nottingham Forest arrive at Anfield on Saturday.
