Ireland football star to leave Preston after declining major contract offer.

While several high-profile Irish players have transferred clubs in recent seasons, Alan Browne is one footballer who has settled into a club.

The Cork native joined Preston North End as a young player in 2014, so he has spent nearly a decade at Deepdale. He made his 400th first-team appearance for the Championship side earlier this season and currently captains the club.

Browne has been linked with moves away from Preston on various occasions throughout the years, particularly during seasons when the club did not contend for promotion. Despite this, he had never faltered in his loyalty to the team.

However, it appears that his time at the club is coming to an end.

Ireland star set for move after rejecting historic contract

Alan Browne’s current contract expires at the conclusion of the season, allowing the Ireland international to join another team on a free transfer this summer.

His present team is desperate to keep him, but it appears that the player believes now is the time to move on.

When asked if Browne will be with his squad next season, Preston manager Ryan Lowe acknowledged his future was uncertain after the midfielder was previously given a contract that would have made him the club’s most paid player in history.

Alan Browne piqued the interest of Serie A clubs in the January transfer window, with Salernitana going close to signing him.

If he decides to leave, the 35-cap Ireland star is certain to receive numerous offers this summer.
