Ipswich Town eyes £10m Coventry City star for Premier League push.

According to The Sun, Ipswich Town are interested in signing Coventry City midfielder Ben Sheaf.

Ipswich Town are aiming for the Premier League and will be looking to add some new faces to their squad this summer as they prepare for yet another step up.

Kieran McKenna’s current squad has successfully transitioned from League One to the Championship, and several are expected to shine in the top level as well.
However, new players will be required, and it hasn’t been long before several possible recruits have been linked with transfers to Portman Road ahead of their long-awaited return to Premier League action.

According to The Sun, Ipswich Town are interested in signing Coventry City standout Ben Sheaf from the Championship. The Sky Blues were unsuccessful in their promotion attempt, but with interest from the Tractor Boys, Fulham, and Luton Town, he may yet play in the top flight next season.

Luton are anticipated to keep interest even if they are relegated. Following another good season with Coventry, Sheaf is expected to command a sum in the £10 million bracket.

A bargain deal?

Of course, it remains to be seen what will happen with the latest Sheaf rumors. However, you have to believe that he’d be a bargain for £10 million.
The former Arsenal midfielder has been a standout for Coventry City, who are regularly pushing for promotion, and given the hefty payments they received for Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres last summer, Sheaf should cost more than £10 million.
Sheaf is under contract until 2026, so the Sky Blues have no incentive to cash in.

£10 million may be a little optimistic amount for any of Ipswich Town, Fulham, or Luton Town this summer. Coventry are a team with their own aspirations, and Sheaf can play a significant role in their quest to reach the Premier League, so letting him move at that price would undoubtedly raise questions.

Smart recruitment from Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town would make wise acquisitions for the present and future by adding players like Sheaf, who have already shone in the Championship.

Many believe he will succeed in the Premier League. The 26-year-old has improved in previous seasons, and if he can maintain this pace, he has every chance of becoming a top-flight regular.

Sheaf has the potential to be a vital player for Ipswich Town, but if their stay in England’s elite lasts only one season, he will be a star at Championship level once more.

Alternatively, if he stars in a relegation season, his services could generate a substantial profit.

Perhaps Ipswich isn’t thinking that far ahead or considering that possibility now that the promotion celebrations haven’t even ended. However, it is a consideration that would make Sheaf a wise move this summer.
