When Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig 5-0, Jürgen Klopp could not have wished for more. Despite playing a formidable German team, the Reds comfortably controlled the game, and the outcome was never in doubt.

Leipzig has only played one preseason game so far, so they are a little behind Liverpool in their preparations for the new season, but they still ought to have created more trouble than they did.

A large portion of the blame for Leipzig’s lackluster performance will be placed on Liverpool’s intensity and their opponent’s vulnerability to their easy and proficient attacks.

Darwin Nez will undoubtedly receive the majority of the praise for his brilliant performance, but there were plenty of other performances that Klopp will have noticed, including academy graduate Stefan Bajeti, who deserves a special mention for integrating into the lineup seamlessly, looking formidable in his half-hour cameo, and even contributing a pre-assist for the Reds’ third goal.

His other teenagers, Harvey Elliott and Fábio Carvalho, who are a couple of years older and further along in their development than he is, also shown encouraging traits and may have significantly increased their prospects of breaking into the first squad the following season.

Nez just needed to touch the ball into the goal to set up Elliott for Liverpool’s third goal after a strong run that was ended by a quick, accurate pass into the Uruguayan’s foot. The 19-year-old is making the kind of impact that Klopp will want to see from his younger players, but more importantly from his midfielders. That was Elliott’s second assist in as many games.

Last season, Liverpool’s midfield struggled to contribute to goals, and Klopp will be looking for progress there going into the Reds’ upcoming campaign. Manchester City, the club’s Premier League adversary, still has undisputed hegemony in goals from midfield, therefore if Liverpool wants to defeat Pep Guardiola’s team, they must bridge the gap.

Because of this, Carvalho’s participation in the action and subsequent assist for Liverpool’s fifth goal with a brilliant move into the area will serve as the cherry on top for Klopp and his team in their third preseason game.

Carvalho, a player who primarily played in midfield for Fulham last season and contributed to 19 goals, will undoubtedly be expected to chip in with goals and assists for the Reds next season after Liverpool let three attackers leave this summer who contributed a combined 49 goals for the team last season.

Nez, of course, will also be looking to fill that vacuum, but Elliott and Carvalho, as well. Base on their show against RB Leipzig Liverpool is in a safe hands.
