CRISTIANO RONALDO was brutally crushed in front of the entire Manchester United squad during a two-hour summit.

CRISTIANO RONALDO was brutally crushed in front of the entire Manchester United squad during a two-hour summit.

Boss Erik ten Hag summoned the players last Thursday and urged them to air any complaints without risking consequences.

During the clear session, Ten Hag informed Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire that they would not start against Liverpool on Monday.

Ronaldo, 37, did not speak but a number of players spoke up as the coach imposed justice on his underperformance.

They then beat Liverpool 2-1. Ten Hag has had enough of the Ronaldo circus which threatens to undermine his rebuilding work.

He was particularly angry last week after the Portuguese superstar promised she would soon give a full interview.

Now Ten Hag just wants to take out the striker, while a number of players feel that Ronaldo’s attitude and mood affect the spirit of the pitch.

The United boss told the players it’s either his way or his highway in his no-nonsense speech to the team.

The boss invited everyone to give him their opinion on the training ground last week as he tried to find out why they had behaved so badly in the first two games.

In a two-hour showdown, Ten Hag gave all players a chance to say what they wanted about the club’s state. But he insisted on going first.

The Dutchman told the players that he has the full support of the United board to make everything his way.

If someone didn’t like or didn’t want to play for him, they were asked to tell them right away – and they were free to leave the club.

He said they should all be on the same page and play football the way he wanted. The former Ajax manager said he doesn’t want his underperforming stars to ruin his reputation.

He then invited the players to speak for the team to voice their complaints, which many have done.

Marcus Rashford is said to have asked him when he would interpret it as number 9, as he had told him in preparation.

It was then that Ten Hag told him that he would have his chance against Liverpool the following Monday.

Rashford, 24, responded with the best play of him in some time in the midst of a front three with Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga alongside him.

He moved wide early in the second half when Anthony Martial replaced Elanga and the pair scored together for Rashford.

Ten Hag has made four changes to the squad since the 4-0 loss at Brentford, informing Ronaldo and Maguire during the encounter that they were out.

The captain’s armband went to Bruno Fernandes.

Last weekend, Ten Hag canceled the players’ day off to train them in a brutal 13.8km race, which he also took part in.

This impressed the band – many of them had been upset that their day off was cancelled.

Ten Hag said on Friday that he wanted them to get angry and channel that anger into their performances.

His words and actions had the desired effect as United beat Liverpool 2-1 on Monday.
Needless to say, training in the days following Thursday’s team meeting was on a different level than before.
