I’m really happy’: Jurgen Klopp delighted two 17-year-olds ‘have made great progress’ in senior team training at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has made no secret of his delight as two teenagers ‘take big steps’ in senior training at Liverpool this week. It is a positive point not to sign anyone.
Jurgen Klopp has spoken openly about Liverpool’s midfield issues this week. The boss admits signing someone new would be ‘really cool’ as injuries continue to creep into the squad.
Thiago is injured, of course, as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones. For a team that arguably needed a new midfielder anyway, calls for a signing have intensified in recent weeks.
But Klopp points out that once everyone is fit, Liverpool have plenty of depth. It’s just “crazy” that so many absences are happening at the same time, he says. There’s not much need to sign anyone, even if it would be positive for the team. He can’t choose how much the club spends, so the need should be great
Luckily, there are positives coming from the injury situation, even without a signing. Klopp highlighted one this week, appearing delighted that Stefan Bajcetic and Bobby Clark are getting senior chances.
“We have a team where everyone is needed, we are not a 25-26 man team, but on the other side it has opened up opportunities,” Klopp said, per the Liverpool Echo.
“I’m really happy, I’m not sure Stefan Bajectic and Bobby Clark would be so close to the first team at 17, if everyone was available and now they’re taking big steps in training.”
Bajcetic and Clark both look set to play for the first team. The two train constantly with the first team now, with injuries conferring those chances.
For example, they were on the bench against Crystal Palace and we expect them to do the same against Manchester United tonight. There is little chance that even one of them will take the field for the debut.
Bajcetic, in particular, looks like a future first team player. There is an obvious place for him as Fabinho’s backup and his versatility to also play as a center-back would make him a great option for the team. 17 may be a little too young to hold a good job, but in the years to come? We expect to see a lot more from the Spaniard.
