Since the beginning of the year, the center back for Nigeria has been outstanding for both club and nation.

He's a hell of a defender, says the former captain of Manchester United of the Super Eagles player.

Following the defender’s outstanding performance for the Baggies over the weekend, Super Eagles star Semi Ajayi has received glowing comments from West Brom Albion manager Steve Bruce.

On the first day of the 2022-2023 Championship season, Ajayi played the whole ninety minutes as West Brom battled to a 1-1 draw at Middleborough.

The home team took the lead after just ten minutes thanks to English attacker Isaiah Jones and Nigerian forward Chuba Akpom, who was Boro’s attack’s focal point.

But later, West Brom were able to keep it tight at the back thanks to Ajayi and his center-back partner Dara O’Shea’s strong defensive play.

Prior to the Baggies earning a share of the spoils thanks to John Swift’s equalizer after the break.

Ajayi’s dominant performance particularly impressed manager Steve Bruce. The Nigerian international, according to the former Manchester United captain, has made tremendous progress since taking over as manager of the Baggies in February.

According to the Express & Star, Bruce stated about Ajayi, “I have to say, he’s improved immensely since I’ve come through the door.”

He’s a fantastic defender, and I’ve liked watching him. When he is huge, strong, swift, and forceful like he was on Saturday, he gives a mountain of a performance, especially in the second half.

How has Ajayi performed for the Eagles in 2022?
Semi Ajayi typically served as a backup for the Super Eagles’ William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun center-back duo under German strategist Gernot Rohr.

However, since Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro arrived, the former Rotherham and Cardiff goalie’s fortunes have changed.

Under the former Sporting Lisbon manager, Ajayi has started each of Nigeria’s four games, including the 10-0 victory over Sao Tome & Principe in June.

The 28-year-ability old’s to consistently put on strong performances for West Brom should help him secure a long-term berth in the Super Eagles defense.
