The Dutchman has been linked to moves away from the Nou Camp during the summer, but because of concerns with unpaid pay, he is still a member of the Barcelona team. De Jong, 25, is eager to make his own decisions about his future and is committed to playing in the Champions League if he decides to leave the team.
After purchasing Chelsea from Roman Abramovich earlier this year, Todd Boehly, the club’s new owner, is seeking to sign a star player. They can provide De Jong with a seat at the top table in Europe, and their alleged interest might cause both Manchester clubs to rise to the occasion.
