Mansfield Town have signed attacker Lee Gregory on a one-year agreement.

The contract is subject to FA and EFL ratification.

The 35-year-old striker joins the club on a free transfer after his contract with Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday expired.

Gregory, an experienced attacker, has had a successful career in the EFL, having been promoted from Sky Bet League One twice before, with Millwall (2017) and Sheffield Wednesday (2022).

The frontman began his career at Staveley Miners Welfare after attending Sheffield United’s Academy. After scoring 37 goals in his final season with the Miners, Gregory moved to Mansfield Town, where he scored once in two appearances.

The Sheffield-born striker then went to Halifax on a permanent basis in 2011, scoring 31 goals in 39 games in his final season.

Gregory joined Millwall in 2014, where he scored 77 goals in five seasons. The attacker scored 18 goals in 2016/17 to help the Lions win promotion to the Championship. Gregory helped Steve Morison score the winner in the League One Play-Off Final at Wembley.

The hardworking forward joined Stoke City in June 2019 and played 50 games, scoring seven goals.

Gregory joined Derby County on loan until the conclusion of the 2020/21 season in February 2021, scoring three goals in 11 appearances during his brief stay at Pride Park.

Gregory recently returned to his birthplace of Sheffield, signing for Sheffield Wednesday and playing 101 games for the Owls. The forward scored 29 goals during his stint at Hillsborough and was named EFL League One Player of the Month in April 2022.

During his stint in Pittsburgh, the forward earned his second promotion to the championship. The South Yorkshire club won the League One Play-Off final in 2023, defeating rivals Barnsley in the capital as the forward led the way for Wednesday at Wembley Stadium, winning 1-0 in extra time.

Gregory remarked of his return to Mansfield Town: “It’s an up-and-coming club. It’s a fantastic fit for me, especially given the location and the manager’s treatment of his players.

“I’m an aggressive forward who enjoys getting the ball into the area and scoring goals.

“Every game is tough in this league and it’ll be about being consistent week-in week out in order for us to do well.”
