Exclusive: Cardiff, Preston & Plymouth Argyle race to sign Brighton star

Brighton ace According to Football Insider, Marc Leonard has emerged as a summer transfer target for Cardiff City, Preston North End, and Plymouth Argyle.

The Premier League team is unlikely to turn down an offer in the region of £300,000 for the 22-year-old midfielder.

The former Scotland U-21 international has had an outstanding season on loan with Northampton Town, winning the club’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season honors.

His impressive performances in League One have alerted Championship clubs to his availability, and they are now considering moves for him ahead of next season.

Brighton willing to offload Marc Leonard if asking price met

Leonard has been a constant presence in the Northampton lineup since signing on loan last summer, starting every single league game.

The midfielder has five goals and six assists this season, with four of them coming after the turn of the year.

This is the Scotsman’s second loan spell with the Cobblers, having returned to the League One club after his success at Sixfields Stadium in the 2022/23 season.

He joined Brighton from Scottish club Hearts in 2018, but his opportunities have been limited at the Amex, with only two games in that time.

Leonard now appears to be destined to go permanently this summer if one of the prospective parties meets the Seagulls’ asking price.

With Cardiff, Preston, and Plymouth all interested in signing him once the transfer window reopens, he may have the opportunity to show himself in the Championship next season.
