Everton forward may miss rest of season; injury worsens Everton’s tough times.

Sean Dyche has intimated that Lewis Dobbin may not feature for Everton again this season while recovering from an injury.

The youthful forward suffered an ankle injury during Portugal’s training camp before the international break last month, but scans confirmed that surgery was not required for his recovery.

And, speaking at a news conference (via Liverpool Echo, 13 April) before of the Chelsea game on Monday (15 April), Dyche said that the 21-year-old is making “good progress” but declined to confirm whether he would play again this season due to a “delicate” situation.

“He’s making good progress,” he remarked.

“I wouldn’t want to provide a timetable, but we are hopeful that he will be able to rejoin the squad within the next few weeks, but we’ll see.

“It is delicate. A simple injury in one sense, but a sensitive one to get the time right to ensure it’s strong enough to continue.”

Everton dealt Lewis Dobbin injury blow in relegation battle

Despite their low league position, the Toffees’ biggest issue this season has not been their defensive performance. It has been scoring goals from the opposite end of the pitch.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin only recently broke a 23-game goal drought, Beto has struggled to score consistently, while Dwight McNeil, Jack Harrison, and Arnaut Danjuma have combined for just six Premier League goals this season.

Dobbin is young and can only add one goal to his score, but his energy, skill, and unique profile from a wide position would have offered Sean Dyche with a viable alternative.

With Everton having only seven games left to avoid relegation, the manager must explore deploying different options to achieve different results, and Dobbin may have been that wildcard.

It’s a significant setback for the manager to be without that option, but perhaps he’ll be able to return before the end of the season to make an effect or fully recover ahead of a Premier League campaign next season.
