A man who has fallen out of favor at Anfield but was once dubbed the “next Virgil van Dijk” may be set to get a shot in preseason under Jürgen Klopp.

During the preseason for Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp might be about to test the "next Virgil van Dijk."

The start of Liverpool’s 2022–23 season preparations is currently just one week away.

Before departing on excursions to Asia and Europe in preparation for their first “competitive” match in England against Manchester City in the Community Shield, Jürgen Klopp’s team will first reassemble at the AXA training facility.

In order to revamp his Liverpool club, Klopp will have a chance to integrate new players into his squad and test out fresh tactics during the month before that game. Additionally, it will be a chance for both familiar and unfamiliar people to attract his attention and express themselves.

One such player who could be eager to make his mark on the team is 20-year-old Sepp van den Berg.

When he first arrived at the club as a 17-year-old, the Dutchman was compared to Virgil van Dijk due to his nationality and towering figure.

The month prior to that game will be an opportunity for Klopp to integrate players into his squad and to trial new systems in order to renovate his Liverpool team. It will also be an opportunity for new and old faces to catch his eye and make a statement for themselves ahead of the season.

Van den Berg will be aware that this might be his chance to demonstrate Liverpool’s coaching staff his development throughout the first few weeks of preseason after his commanding performances at both right-back and center-back for Preston may have caught their attention.

Although Liverpool has plenty of center backs, Klopp has always been willing to try new things and give people a chance if they put in the effort. If the Reds suffer any injuries along the way, Van den Berg may receive a promotion right away.

Harvey Elliott provided the ideal example last season for players who returned from Championship loans into the first team squad and stepped up to show his skills in the first team during preseason, and Sepp van den Berg will be hoping to have a similar effect this time around

Given that there haven’t been many rumors about him leaving the club as of yet, it’s probable that Klopp would give him a chance to at least prove to him that he’s prepared for a bigger position at the team.
