Derby County have faced a number of attackers in the Championship who have enjoyed games against the Rams as they attempt to add to their season totals.

Billy Sharp and former striker David Nugent are among the most prolific scorers against the East Midlands club, but none has been as lethal as Birmingham City attacker Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Lukas Jutkiewicz’s record against Derby County

Lukas Jutkiewicz has liked playing against a variety of teams in the Championship, but none more than Derby.

Leeds United, Bristol City, Ipswich Town, and Blackburn Rovers were all victims of the seasoned striker’s goal-scoring skills, but the 35-year-old’s favourite opposition proved to be the Rams, who he scored 10 goals in 17 Championship outings against.

His first goal against the East Midlands club came during his second season with Coventry City, in a 2-0 home win to start the season, bringing his tally to three goals in his first six league appearances for the Sky Blues.

The next season, the striker moved to Middlesbrough, where he continued his goal-scoring form against Derby, netting three times in the sides’ two league games. Jutkiewicz scored nearly half of his goals in 2012/13 against the Rams.

A move to Premier League club Burnley provided the Rams with some rest the following season, and Derby were able to survive nearly four seasons until Jutkiewicz’s next strike against them.

He scored his first goal of the 2017-18 season against them, but struggled throughout the season, scoring only five league goals.

His next seven goals against Derby came in Birmingham City colours, the last of which was a brace in an away win in 2021.

Derby County have had the better of Lukas Jutkiewicz despite his goal-scoring record

While Derby will be keeping a careful eye on the prospect of seeing the Blues striker again next season, they have typically outperformed their Midlands rivals when Jutkiewicz has appeared.

Since the 35-year-old’s permanent arrival at St. Andrews @ Knighthead Park in 2017, the Rams have won seven of their last 17 meetings, but they haven’t won against the West Midlands club since a 4-0 victory in Birmingham in late 2020. Previously, Derby had a nine-game winning streak against Birmingham in the Championship.

Having said that, Birmingham have yet to guarantee their second-tier position as the season comes to an end.

While Derby’s primary goal remains to finish in the top two this season, they will be hoping to switch places with the Blues at the conclusion of the season to avoid confronting a recent thorn in their side when they return to the Championship.
