Jimmy Bell, a former Accrington Stanley assistant manager, has been named as Clitheroe’s interim manager until the conclusion of the season.

The club has moved rapidly to replace Danny Caldecott, who resigned from his role following last Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Hanley Town.

Caldecott signed a long-term contract with the Blues when he arrived in October, but he only lasted 26 league games in charge.

He left the team at 11th in the Pitching In NPL West Division table.

Clitheroe claim Bell offered his services as a favour to the club’s directors on an interim basis.

He was most recently John Coleman’s assistant at Accrington, before being fired by the League Two club in early March.

Before joining Rochdale in 2012, the couple spent 23 years at Accrington in two periods, bringing the reconstituted club from non-league to the Football League.

They returned to Accrington a little over a year later, having previously played for Southport and Sligo Rovers.

Bell’s first match in command will be away to already-relegated 1874 Northwich on Saturday, followed by home games against Hednesford Town and away to Leek Town before the season ends.
