Celtic fans urge star to stay after his standout game against Aberdeen.

Hart was both the story’s villain and hero, and fans want him to stick around.

Joe Hart was celebrating the ‘carnage’ following Celtic’s stunning penalty shootout victory over Aberdeen.

And one wink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment during the spot-kicks has fans imploring him to postpone his retirement and stay for another season. Hart temporarily became the villain of the Scottish Cup show when he unexpectedly stepped up to take the fifth spot-kick, which would have won the shootout for the champs, but it hit the post. But only moments later, he saved from Killian Phillips to seal their victory, and those few minutes brilliantly captured the frenzy of one of the best cup matches in recent memory.

He believes he’d accept another one in a heartbeat and could get the opportunity with a final against either Hearts or Rangers on May 26. That will be his final game in professional football, since he announced his retirement earlier this season.

So when he stated on Instagram that he enjoyed the ‘absolute mayhem’, admirers flooded in. The comments section was flooded with pleas like “Go on just one more year,” and “finish the story!” encouraging him to put pen to paper and abandon his plans to hang up the gloves for another season. One wrote: “We love you, Joe. It fills me with joy to watch athletes like yourselves, who have accomplished so much in the game, put on the uniform. Don’t abandon us,” and another said, “What a man! Please sign the extension!”

Hart’s theatrics immediately following his mistake also drew some attention. After hitting the post, cameras recorded Hart winking and smirking at Aberdeen goalkeeper Kelle Roos. It was a wink that you’ll miss, but one observant punter wrote: “That wink…” while another said: “That smile and wink. “You’re insane, Joe.”
