Calvin Ramsay: Liverpool pays £4.2 million to capture Aberdeen’s right back

Calvin Ramsay, a Scottish right back who is 18 years old, has been acquired by Liverpool from Aberdeen on a five-year deal with an initial investment of £4.2 million.
The agreement for the Scotland Under-21 player also contains a 17.5 percent sell-on clause and £2.5 million in future add-ons.
Ramsay will train with Jurgen Klopp’s first squad during preseason; there are no intentions to loan him out.
The defender exclaimed, “I’m just buzzing, and being here is like a dream come true.”Playing for Aberdeen was a dream come true, and now that I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the largest, it’s a massive accomplishment, and I’m looking forward to trying to show the supporters what I’ve got,” he said.
Ramsay played 33 times for Aberdeen last season, contributing nine assists along with one goal.
After progressing through the youth ranks, he has made a total of 39 appearances for the Scottish Premiership team.
After an outstanding debut season that saw him linked with numerous European clubs, the full-back was voted young player of the year by the Scottish Football Writers’ Association in April.
Ramsay cited one of the factors that led him to the Reds as the development of young players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harvey Elliott.
There is undoubtedly a path here, he declared.
That was one of the factors in my decision, too. They give young players a chance to play in the first team, so it’s not only a big club.
“Therefore, there is no reason why I can’t push to be in the first-team squad if I can come in during pre-season and put my mark down.”
He is the third player to join Liverpool this summer after £5 million Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho and £64 million Uruguay forward Darwin Nunez from Benfica.
Liverpool won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup last year, but finished second in the Premier League and fell to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, expressed excitement about working with “another young kid” who has “loads of promise.”
Although he will turn 19 soon, Klopp noted that the defender has already made a respectable number of first-team appearances for a defender his age.
“He has good technical ability, is athletic, intelligent, and, most importantly, is ready to learn. Thus, there is plenty to like.
“His development has benefited greatly from his experiences playing under-21 international and European football.”
Ramsay’s signing so early in the transfer window will allow him to integrate with the team throughout preseason, according to Klopp, who believes Liverpool are the best organization to develop his skills.
“We’ll both be patient with one another. I believe we have demonstrated that ours is the best environment for developing and utilizing a young player’s skills and abilities “Reds manager said.
