Braves make trade with Angels for under the radar reliever

The Braves’ pitching staff has been excellent in recent weeks, but the best general managers keep adding throughout the season. You never know what will happen over the next six months, and the Braves should know better than anyone given that three of its All-Stars have already missed substantial time this year.

According to the team’s official X account, the Braves have acquired Jimmy Herget from the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations, and he has been optioned to AAA Gwinnett.

After a disappointing 2023 season for the Angels, in which he produced a 4.66 ERA in 29 appearances, Herget failed to make this year’s Opening Day roster and was subsequently designated for assignment a few days ago.

It may appear to be a modest transaction, but he is a player who only a season ago posted a 2.48 ERA, 2.82 FIP, and 0.913 WHIP in 49 appearances for the Halos in 2022. The Angels are one of the worst teams in baseball at getting the most out of their pitchers. In contrast, the Atlanta Braves are among the greatest. Nobody should be surprised if Herget returns to Atlanta and recaptures his 2022 form if he is required.
