Boss exiting West Ham amidst farewell tour disaster.

David Moyes’ farewell tour took another “disastrous” turn on Sunday (5 May), when West Ham fell 5-0 to Chelsea, according to Kieran Gill.

According to The Guardian [3 May], the Hammers are negotiating a deal to replace Moyes with Julen Lopetegui, which could be confirmed as soon as this week.

With only one home game remaining in the Premier League season, against Luton Town at the London Stadium, West Ham suffered another disappointing loss at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (5 May).

Gill wrote in the Daily Mail’s The Verdict on Monday (6 May, page 7): “With Moyes due to leave West Ham this summer, one supporter in the away end sacrificed a bedsheet to show his thanks.

“‘Moysie,’ read the banner. ‘Thank you. Three years in Europe. Champions’ Though this is turning into a disastrous farewell tour, you hope that appreciation will be replicated in their last home game at the London Stadium against Luton this Saturday.”

David Moyes now set for quick West Ham United exit

The Scot has the perfect opportunity to end his second spell at the club on a strong note, with West Ham close to replacing him as manager.

The Hammers have had some fantastic memories in recent seasons, owing to Moyes’ leadership and guidance, which helped the club win its first European trophy in decades.

Despite this, the current manager can only enjoy that success for so long. Football is a results-driven sport, and recent performances in the Premier League and domestic championships have been disappointing.

The 5-0 setback to Chelsea is only the tip of the iceberg, especially following the 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace last month. However, with nothing to play for, Hammers fans can use the penultimate game of the season as a goodbye celebration.

Even with the poor ending, with Moyes reportedly feuding with Tim Steidten, the manager deserves respect when West Ham meet Luton at the London Stadium on Saturday, May 11.
